University Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Digital Design

The J. Robert and Barbara A. Hillier College of Architecture and Design at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications for a teaching position in Digital Design at the rank of University Lecturer or Senior University Lecturer. This is a full-time, non-tenure track appointment that emphasizes teaching and service toward program development within the School of Art + Design at the College.

The Hillier College at NJIT benefits from a particular set of circumstances that offer faculty and students exciting opportunities for teaching and learning, research, and service. It has graduate and undergraduate programs in architecture, planning, interior, industrial, and digital design, and faculty members from similarly diverse fields. It is one of six colleges and schools in a public polytechnic university that attracts a diversity of students and that encourages collaboration across disciplines. It is located in Newark, NJ, in proximity to New York and to many other urban communities in New Jersey and the larger metropolitan area.

The successful applicant will have an established record of teaching excellence and professional experience in a broad range of digital design practice areas (e.g. animation, game design, visualization, effects) with demonstrated leadership abilities. Candidates must be able to teach in design studio as well as teach a subset of required and elective courses such as those dealing with 3D modeling and visualization, animation, game design, compositing, motion capture, web design, VFX, and/or character design/modeling/rigging, etc. It is also expected that the candidate may teach in the core/foundation program. The successful applicant will have opportunities and expectations to offer elective courses in related areas of interest and to develop new courses as appropriate.

Lecturers are expected to fully participate in the life of the school which may include serving on committees, helping prepare for accreditation visits and evaluations, and recruit students (including participation in on-campus weekend Open House recruiting events).

The position offers collaborative opportunities with the Industrial Design, Interior Design, and Architecture programs within the College and seeks candidates who will play an integral role in program development and accreditation activities.

The successful candidate will have an earned MFA degree within two years of the start of the appointment. Active participation in professional organizations (e.g. ACM/SIGGRAPH is encouraged). At the discretion of NJIT, an earned terminal degree in a related field with relevant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of the MFA.

You will need to submit a CV, cover letter, statement of interests, and a list of three references. Applicants should provide a link in their cover letter to a digital portfolio containing samples of their work and their students' work in a PDF Format. Applicants are encouraged to apply by December 1, 2019. The position, however, will remain open until filled. As an EEO employer, NJIT is committed to building a diverse and inclusive teaching, research, and working environment and strongly encourages applications from individuals with disabilities, minorities, veterans, and women.
