Video Game Programming Position
Department of Computer Science & Information Technology
University of Prince Edward Island

The Department of Computer Science & Information Technology at UPEI is developing an innovative new program in video game programming. Unlike many other gaming programs, our emphasis is on the programming aspects of game development; building a challenging and rigorous program on top of our existing computer science major requirements which will prepare students for entry into the industry as junior programmers. In addition to the standard undergraduate computer science programming education, the new program will require additional courses in the areas of non-traditional platform and graphics programming, project development, game-oriented mathematics and physics, and interactive storytelling. This program will prepare successful graduates for a demanding career in video game development.

The Department invites applications from individuals with a strong history in both academia and industry for a full time, tenure track position in the field of computer graphics, computer animation or video game development – rank and salary to be determined by experience, start date Jan 1, 2009. This position is industry oriented and it is highly desirable that the successful candidate demonstrate a potential to establish collaborative relationships with the local video game development industry. An advanced degree in computer science or closely related relevant field is required and some teaching experience is preferred. Equally required is an extensive history of high quality industry-oriented research in one of the above specified fields. The candidate will be expected to take a lead in the on-going development of the department’s specialization in video game programming and to have a central role in overseeing the department’s newly constructed gaming and graphics lab. We envision this position appealing to an experienced professional who is looking for a unique challenge and the chance to have a major influence on the industry in this region.
